Renaissance style Hurdy-gurdyExquisite 17th century design
The Renaissance style is sometimes called the trapezoidal style, the Marchand style after the instrument in the Brussels Conservatoire, or the Henri III style after the highly decorated hurdy-gurdy of this design in the Paris Conservatoire. The design is older than the guitar-shaped and lutebacked instruments that were developed in the early 18th century. This version of the instrument has a considerably richer sound than those we have heard built by other makers, owing to a modernized bracing system. It has locking metal tangents and a modern composite wheel which reduce its sensitivity to changes in temperature and humidity.
